Extreme Cold Weather Trigger Finger Mitten Shell
The trigger finger mitten shell is an outer mitten designed to be worn in combination with an insulated liner in extreme cold weather environments when improved dexterity is needed as compared to the limited dexterity a full mitten shell provides. The trigger finger design enables the wearer to move their first finger independently from the rest of the hand and, when needed, move their first finger into the larger finger compartment to warm up. The shell is part of a system that includes a removable insulated trigger finger mitten liner conforming to MIL-DTL-32708 that can be worn over a glove insert if desired.

Design
The outside shell is constructed from a three-layer laminate consisting of a nylon taslan face backed by a waterproof layer and lightweight knit lining in accordance with MIL-DTL-32698. The shell shall include a water-repellent treatment on the face and a water-repellent goatskin leather palm, which is backed by a waterproof layer. The suede side of the leather is used to construct a nose wipe on the back of the thumb. The mitten shell is insulated on the back of the hand and thumb with the insulation material conforming to MIL-PRF-32567 type II or type III, class 4; the palm, back of the hand, gauntlet, and finger/thumb portions are lined with 70 denier nylon ripstop conforming to MIL-DTL-32699. The mitten shell has an elasticized inner wrist and an adjustable strap at the back of the wrist to provide a close fit, with a long gauntlet that extends up the forearm with a manual adjustment feature at the end of the cuff to provide desired closure over various clothing layers. An adjustable lanyard is attached to the hem, and the outside of the shell has a feature at the side seam that enables the mittens to be clipped together as a pair when not in use.
