The Soldier Plate Carrier System (SPCS) is designed as a lightweight alternative, not a replacement, for the Improved Outer Tactical Vest, the core of the Interceptor body armor system. It is intended to increase mobility and maneuverability by lightening the Soldier's load when operating on foot in mountainous terrain or at high altitude.

SPCS cummerbund configuration

Component

• a base vest assembly
  • a front plate carrier with a removable soft ballistic insert
  • a back plate carrier with a removable soft ballistic insert
  • a quick release cable
  • four female quick-release buckles which are attached to the front carrier by the quick-release cable
  • a set of shoulder straps which attach to the front carrier using the quick release cable and to the back carrier using buckles and hook and loop fastener
• a set of side plate carrier assemblies
  • a right side plate carrier with a removable soft ballistic insert
  • a left side plate carrier with a removable soft ballistic insert
• a cummerbund assembly
  • a right cummerbund with a hard plastic stiffener and a removable soft ballistic insert
  • a left cummerbund with a hard plastic stiffener and a removable soft ballistic insert
  • two side plate pockets with two removable soft ballistic inserts
  • four male quick release buckles which replace the female buckles of the base vest assembly
• four attachment straps that connect the front and back carriers when the system is configured without the side plate carriers or the cummerbund assembly.
