The Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment (MOLLE) was designed to replace the All-purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment (ALICE) and Integrated Individual Fighting System (IIFS).

MOLLE full rucksack load configuration

Components

The MOLLE consists of

• a main pack and shoulder straps attached to the frame that can accommodate add-on components including
  • a radio pocket
  • a 6-mag bandoleer
  • a sleep system carrier
  • a patrol pack
  • two sustainment pockets
• a butt pack (8465-01-465-2058 )
  • the same basic design as the IIFS variant of the training field pack in woodland camouflage pattern (8465-00-935-6825 )
• a load bearing vest that can accept removable pockets for various configrations
• six foot lashing straps (8465-01-465-2095 )
• hydration system (8465-01-465-2154 )
  • hydration carrier (8465-01-465-2131 )
  • hydration bladder (8465-01-465-2096 )
• repair kit (8465-01-465-2080 )
• accessories
  • ALICE clip adapter (8465-01-465-2062 )
  • K-Bar adapter (8465-01-465-2272 )

The Interlocking Attachment System is used to attach pockets to the vest, packs, and waist belt.
